We all want to make a difference in this life, whether that means simply living a good life or helping someone else have a good life. Global media delivers to us many visually compelling images of devastation, inhumanity and extreme poverty.
It can seem so overwhelming – how does one fix all the suffering of the world? Let us follow the footsteps of Mother Teresa who said: “If you cannot feed a hundred people, feed one.” At Cents For Innocents, each child fed, cleaned, clothed, educated and sheltered is a difference.
The currency in the developed nations such as the United States of America goes a long way in the less developed countries. Poverty levels are high and many children, even with loving families, suffer malnutrition and lack of education resources. For example, in the Philippines currently, $1 can buy approximately 50 pesos. Here are some examples of what cents on the dollar can provide:
Just a few examples of the impact you can make…
For $1,000 – sponsor a deserving family: build them a home and food for a year
For $500 – sponsor a child’s parent to attend a government approved vocational school, or build a home for a deserving poor family to shelter them from the rain and winds
For $100 – sponsor a feeding day of up to 150 kids at one of our feeding programs
For $50 – sponsor an indigent student for public elementary school for the year (books, uniform, supplies)
For $10 – provide a child a school bag filled with clothing for school, notebooks, pencils, dental care items
As you consider making your contribution, just imagine how it fulfilling it would be to know that you sent a child to bed with enough food to get a good night’s sleep. Some companies match their employee’s contributions to tax-exempt charities – this is a great way to double your impact!
